I don't regularly read xkcd, so I wasn't aware of a little gem that Randall Munroe recently cooked up called Time until it was pointed out to me. It's an experimental comic that doesn't seem like much at first, but keep with it. I haven't finished it, but thus far the story is very cute.

Been tinkering around with some of the older pages. Which do you prefer?

Best gaming webcomic ever?

Quite possibly.

In other news, too much video games gives me headache. Ugh... It doesn't even take very much anymore... *room spinning* -_-

I'm happy to announce that Swordmaster Odyssey has been treated to its first review, which appears to be pretty positive. Very well written review, by the way, and since it's written by a total stranger, they're not afraid to point out my weaknesses. If I'd had about five more of these back when I'd started out, I'd dare say I'd have gotten off on a better foot. XD

He brings up some very nice points, to boot. I'd like to bring up a few of them--not for a rebuttle, mind you, but just to share my thoughts on them because, as far as the nitpicking goes,

- In passing, the difference between the drawing style of the first chapter and everything else is mentioned. For the record, this was not intentional. I just got better once I'd gotten the hang of doing four to five pages a week. XD I've already cleaned up several of the earlier pages, and I'm awfully tempted to go back and fix more of them, but I'm afraid that they'd either stand out to much, or I'd tamper with them too much and ruin the entire flow. That, and I'm afraid I'll end up just redoing every single page thus far over and over again. :(

- The further along I get, the more I wish I'd gone with a color comic. Granted, my coloring skills were pathetic when I started out (not they're much better now, mind you), so the early pages might have looked even worse. But now that I'm down to one page or two a week, the lack of color is especially disappointing. But then again, the point of B+W was to be able to do animation at the same time. BUT LOL, WHERE IS MY ANIMATION NOW? T_T

- Again, my lack of enviroments is noted. Pheonix brought this up some time ago, and I've doubled my efforts on them, but I still need to put more work into grounding the characters in a world. To (heavily) paraphrase a wonderful quote by Scott McCloud, "They're not just lines to set the stage, they're enviroments that your characters live in and interact with." I shall have to increase my efforts on this front yet again! :) Truth be told, a year ago, I hated drawing "backgrounds", but now I honestly don't mind them so much.

- Hayden covering one of his eyes is noted. I'm honestly surprised that this is the first I've heard anyone comment on this. Does it have any relevance to the story? I'm not going to tell you that! :P

- Something not even I noticed: as of the current page, every major villain thus far has at least one--if not both--eyes covered or hidden. Heh, maybe it was a subliminal idea I thought of, born out of pure genius?... Well, no, because the next villain to be introduced breaks that mold. :( Truth be told, I wish I'd given Thanatos a pair of eyes that weren't hidden under eyebrow forests. He looked a lot better in the original concept sketches. :/

Hopefully more review pop up in the future, they really are helpful for improving the series. Your own thoughts on the comic are welcome as well. :)

Came across this thing looking for something COMPLETELY unrelated. Yeah, story of my life. Anyway...

One of these days, I really ought to write up a post about my recent thoughts about Wikipedia, but not today I don't think...

Swordmaster Odyssey two days early.

Haven't actually launched yet, but the site is 95% ready to go. Not 100% happy with the current ad placements, but when I designed the layout, I failed to take into account that I would be putting them up later. -_-

Most webcomics use a two-banner layout. One banner up top, and a skyscraper to the left. The top one doesn't look so bad on mine, but on the few pages I actually used a skyscraper, it seems to clash a bit with my layout.

Now, if my site was more popular, I could just do what the big webcomics do and handle the advertising myself which would get me ads that are at least slightly relevant to my target audience. But no one's going to spend money negotiating with a 100-hit per day web site. :/ For the record, I will sooner gnaw my arm off than allow pop-ups or tacky Flash ads that make noise and bounce around on the page. And, as an artist, I need really need my arm. :(

Although they can be as funny as all get-out, there are several things I don't like about the webcomic VGCats. Not the least of which is the fact that Scott randomly decides he doesn't like one of his comics and deletes it. 9_9
