Everynow and then, I get junk mail from ACM SIGGRAPH associated companies. I'm not a big fan of junk mail, but I actually agreed on my application to let them do it because I'll occasionaly get a rare gem in the mail (and because I'm an idiot). One such is a Morgan Kaufmann catalog, which generally wouldn't intrest me because I'm not big on programming. However, they had one book that caught my interest as I thumbed through the pages about the chunk the thing into the kitchen grabage, Better Game Characters by Design: A Psychological Approach. It talks about how game design is becoming more and more character focused, and what makes popular characters popular by looking at psycology and society. It actually sounds pretty interesting, and is very relevant to my actual profession as an animator. I'll likely disagree with 25% of what the author says, but even if I disagree with something, I may find it's something I've never thought of from a particular angle. That and it has Mega Man on the cover.

Thing is, it's 360 pages, hardback, which makes it $50. I can a 10% discount and free shipping if I preorder, though, and it's a cheaper price than I've seen at amazon.com, so I might just check it out.
